Fighter of the Week (4/8-4/14): Alejandro Guerrero

On a somewhat quiet but lowkey exciting week of fights, one man rebuilt himself and got himself back in the mix in his weight class. Alejandro "Pork Chop" Guerrero, of Irving, Texas, was once a fairly highly touted prospect who fell off. But he's back as he said in the post-fight interview at the American Bank Center. His upset victory over Jalen Walker put Pork Chop back in the mix at 130 pounds, ended his four-fight losing streak, earned him the Fighter of the Week award, moved his record to 13-4 (10), and earned him at least one more big money fight on a big card.

Guerrero the Irving native got the action started for the Texas-based fighters in the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi Christi. Pork Chop scored a massive upset over the newly signed Top Rank prospect and heavy-betting favorite Walker. The Texan worked behind a jab and marched forward a shotgun right-hand, another right-hand dropped walker in the fourth, and the Irving native who now makes his home in Houston unleashed in the fifth. One particular hook again wobbled Walker badly. After Guerrero was ruled down from a barrage in the fifth, Pork Chop got his bearings back and went back to work. He dominated the end of the 6th and rallied with the right hand and hard body shots. Guerror drove Walker up against the ropes in the seventh and again unleashed on him. The Texan put together one more barrage and forced Walker's corner to step in and stop the fight. The bout was officially waved to a halt at 1:35 of the seventh round.

Guerreo took a big step to getting back to where he was supposed to be. He said prior to this fight that this was "make or break" for him. He certainly made the most of this opportunity. The win make him relevant once again as the remotivated Texan showed what he was capable of when he was focused now a step up fight is in order. A name like Adam Lopez or Jordan Gill or Francisco Fonseca would bee a good test for Pork Chop and a win there would validate Guerrero and confirms that he belongs in the discussiobs at 130 pounds. A ewi nover their would propel him  to a fight against a legit prospect to close out 2024.
